Smart Code garners no opposition
Posted: Thursday, Jun 4th, 2009

SOUTH FORK — The biggest news out of the South Fork Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday afternoon May 27 meeting at the Community Center was there was no substantial opposition voiced to the Crabtree Group Inc. citizen-backed suggested future Town Center Smart Code zoning plan.

The meeting was held at the larger facility rather than the ordinary Town Hall site because of the substantial public interest expected in the rezoning plan. Aside from the commission and the town attorney, approximately 60 South Fork residents attended.

Joe DeLuca of the Crabtree Group made a fairly lengthy whiteboard-supported presentation summarizing the plan, and answered a large number of questions from the public about what the expected impact of the plan might be.

He also emphasized more than once that the impact of the new zoning ideas and rules, along with expected development in the 1500-foot radius area of the Town Center is long term, not changes that will all be seen in the next six months or year.

Mayor Larry Heersink, also a planning commission member told the South Fork Tines that final approval would have to come through the town’s top governing body.  He could not say that would happen at the next Board meeting June 11.  Too many factors involved in final approval prevented him from saying it was simply going to happen at the next meeting, he cautioned.
