S.F. kids summer program kicks off

SOUTH FORK­—Registration for the South Fork Children’s Summer Recreation Program for 2012 was held on June 29, but area youth still have a few more days to sign up for a summer of fun.

Katy Richardson welcomed four children and their families to the program and provided more information on the activities that will be available throughout the rest of the summer. The first activity children will be able to attend is a rafting trip with Mountain Man Rafting in Creede. The next week children will be working with Darlene Danko on an art project. Participants will also be able to enjoy miniature golf, a train ride, a day at the Creede Repertory Theatre, horseback riding and swimming.

The program is available to children of all abilities from ages 5 to 13 and a full schedule of the events is available from Richardson. Some of the trips will include snacks for the children and they will enjoy a picnic lunch at other events.

Children are also welcome to take part in weekly hikes sponsored by the Chapel of the South Fork. Participants should meet in the chapel’s parking lot at 9 a.m. on Wednesday mornings. Though these are not affiliated with the South Fork summer program, Richardson has set the recreation program schedule to accommodate the weekly hikes.

Program cost varies from the basic registration package at $12 to an all-inclusive package for $45 per child. The first activity will be held on July 9 and the end of summer swimming and pizza party will be held Aug. 17, giving local youth plenty of fun activities before they return to school in Del Norte on Aug. 20 and Creede on Aug. 22.
