ALAMOSA — Jose “Eli” Hilario V. Benavides, 64, of Alamosa, died under Hospice care Oct. 14, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 31, 1945 in Del Norte to Pete and Esther Tafoya Benavides. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, listening to Spanish music, gardening, traveling, cooking and spending time with his loving family.
His father, Pete Benavides; Ruth Benavides, an aunt who raised him; uncles, Floren and Jerry Benavides; and a nephew, Lawrence Benavides, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Heather Benavides of Alamosa; mother, Esther Quintana of Del Norte; five sons, Eli (Teresa) Benavides of Colorado Springs, David (Ava) Benavides of Denver, Chris Benavides of San Diego, Calif.; Vince (Elena) Benavides of Alamosa, Jason (Melanie) Benavides of Travis AFB, Calif.; one daughter, Hannah Benavides of Alamosa; step-son Peter Cimei of Alamosa; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; one brother, Fred (Frances) Benavides of Del Norte; one sister, Debra Quintana of Del Norte; one aunt, Emma Benavides of Del Norte; two half brothers, Glen Duran of Monte Vista and Donald (Nedra) Benavides of Del Norte; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Funeral Service was Saturday, Oct. 17, at the New Life Fellowship Church in Del Norte. Burial was in the Del Norte Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Romero Chapel of Alamosa.
