John Caroll Patterson, 88

MONTE VISTA— Lifetime San Luis Valley resident John Caroll Patterson, 88, died Dec. 19, 2018 at the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake in Monte Vista.
John was born at home near Center on Nov. 3, 1930 to John Russell Patterson and Vivian K. Mayfield Patterson. He married his first wife Marie Ruth Basl-Patterson and to this union two children were born, John and Mark. Following their divorce, he later married Jan Vollendar and she preceded him in death after 12 years of marriage.
John attended school at the Colorado A&M (now known as CSU) and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Business. He joined the United States Air Force and spent a couple of years stateside during the Korean War and was discharged following his father’s death to return home and run the family farm.
John loved music and especially Jazz. In his day he was an avid fisherman and loved the mountains. John enjoyed watching football and rarely missed a Denver Broncos game.
He is survived by his two sons: John Patterson of Monte Vista and Mark Allen (Stacey) Patterson of Torrence, Calif.; his grandchildren Jason (Jana) Patterson and Leah (Jon) Hansen; great-grandchildren Piper, Arie and Bohdi; as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
John is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Jan.
Cremation was chosen and private family services will be held at a later date. Rogers Family Mortuary of Monte Vista is in care of the arrangements.
