WOLF CREEK- The owner of Wolf Creek Ski Resort, Roseanne H. Pitcher, is currently working with staff and local Public Health officials to gain public perspective on the reopening of the ski resort this winter.

Pitcher explained that the resort has released a survey to returning customers through an email blast to see how people feel about coming to the resort to ski for the 2020/2021 season. Pitcher stated that the general public can access the survey online at their website www.wolfcreekski.com, just look for the link on the homepage.

“We feel that we can responsibly and safely open to the public this winter. Everything I have seen and heard about the surrounding towns like Pagosa Springs, South Fork and even Creede is that people are continuing to come here to vacation. Why can’t we make sure they have something safe and fun to do for the winter? We feel that we can provide a safe and responsible outdoor recreation opportunity this winter and we want to get feedback from the public on what they think,” said Pitcher.

According to Pitcher, the resort has spent a considerable amount of time preparing for the changes that will have to be in place in order to open this winter season including installing sneeze guards and plexiglass shields in retail shops and rental counters throughout the mountain as well as putting a plan in place that would ensure the safety and well-being of employees and guests who come for a day of skiing.

“We really want to get a feel for what the community is feeling. We feel outdoor recreation and fresh air are important, especially with everything that is going on and we think we can provide that in a safe manner. We can spread people out over our entire 1,600 acres and put a plan in place that ensures mask requirements and social distancing guidelines are used.”

“With a reservation system and making some additional changes like limiting the number of people on the mountain on any given day, we can do this and be COVID-19 responsible. We can absolutely run a COVID-19 safe operation up here and give people something to do while they are here this winter.”

Besides getting ready for the coming winter season, the resort has been enjoying the recent rain and hopes that it will continue into the fall and eventually turn to snow. “We are excited for the coming season and know that we can do this. We have been open since 1939. We can do this.”
